from the farm

Howdy everyone, your baskets are ready to be picked up here at the farm.
Happy Thanksgiving! We hope the veggies in your baskets today will add beauty and farm-fresh flavor to your tables this Thursday. Today’s bounty consists of garlic, “scunions,” broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Red Russian kale, arugula, beets, Acorn squash, sweet potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes, parsley, mixed herbs, and escarole. Escarole is a type of chicory, usually eaten raw as a salad green. Its roots are also dried and ground up into a powder, which is used for flavoring various dishes. Some people add a pinch of chicory to their morning coffee… in fact, back when coffee was still a luxury product, chicory was often used as a substitute! You may notice that the escarole leaves have a slightly bitter flavor, but they’re quite tasty in salad with a good dressing, and in soups. We hope you’ll enjoy this new addition to your baskets! Today’s veggies were picked and packed with love by Tracy, Jo, Catherine, Coby, Sophia, Erica, Rachel, Raoul, Su Lan and Dori.

  1. Eu acho uma coisa bela quem recebe cestas da fazenda, sempre pensar o que fazer com os ingredientes e não começar pelas receitas, é algo que pra mim tem um quê de “volta à natureza”, deve ser muito bom. Um abraço. 🙂
